CityVille Housing Guide & Statistics
Introduction
Housing in CityVille is an important part of CityVille. I know there are several guides around claiming to know what the best houses are. But, however, they all consider decorations in it. I’m a normal player. I don’t have the brain power to calculate how to create several hundred percent of profit while shoving everyone in an unwalkable and unnavigable town.
As a regular player I want to know what houses I can build at a reasonable cost while getting a nice return. However, I don’t build homes for profit return. I build them for population. But, coin return is a very nice incentive. I can’t help it. But I like to go for the “pretty” look as well as population, and a nice coin return to my play style.
New Population System
On April 23rd, 2011 Zynga released an update to Cityville that made population numbers change. These numbers are now no longer set but “Up to # Population”. How do you get these? Well, simple, collect from them. When you collect from a house you have a chance to gain extra population, like collectibles.
On April 28th, 2011 this notice was released in the game to explain the new system:

Table
I have compiled a list of the current housing that can be built from the building menu. All of this table fields are sortable to help you make the best decision. Below the table is my quick analysis. Feel free to comment with your thoughts.

Review
Yes. I know I could have done more to the table, like profit per population for overall, and per hour. I may add it later. But, right now when building housing you are generally targeting for one thing: population. I provided these extras just for awesome statistics. Please note all of these numbers are flat, and not increased by decoration.
Most Profitable: The most profitable housing buildings are the ones that produce rent every five minutes. These three are: Parkside Villa, TV Terrace, and Country Home. When we avoid these to save on energy. So the next two most profitable per hour would be Lake House, but that would cost you ten CityVille cash. The two most profitable that are not five minute collections that are bought with coins would be Upscale Condos, and Cozy Cottages.
Cheapest Cost per Population: Population is a big part of the game to unlock goals, sell goods at businesses. Cozy Cottage, Family Townhouse, Country Home, Suburban House and Loft Apartments are the cheapest at 20 coins per population. However, these take up lots of room! So, I would go for something in the “medium” ranges that have a semi-high population, but low cost per. For example, Terraced Brownstone with 70 population at the cost of 35.71 coins each. Or Tuscan Villas for 86.36 each. Both have a “decent” coin return as well.
Conclusion
I have random play times. Do you come online to check CityVille every day? Day or two? A couple times a day? Take a look at the table above, and figure out what the best is for you. I gave samples above for generic. But, I have no idea what the best for you is. :].
I hope you find this useful! If you have any thoughts, theory crafting, or tips about CityVille Housing, let us know in the comments!
Share them please. ^^. If feedback is decent, I will do a guide for the Businesses. :].

Nice guide but I’m searching for sizes. I really like the spring bungalow because of the 3×3 space it uses & the 130 population.
Outstanding guide to the houses. This is very helpful! One request: could you add a column for the sizes of the houses as well? And, yeah, a similar guide for the businesses would be awesome. Thanks!
I have updated my guide a bit to include new numbers and the new additions.
I will add the sizes soon!
Maybe a section that tells you what collection each one belongs to… That is what I base most of what I build on and I know a few other players who do that as well… But this is an awesome guide!
Done!
Do know why my spring house would only have 500 of the 920 possible?
Housing rules got changed a bit. :-/. It completely threw off my numbers and all. Apparently when you now collect the “rent” from houses you have a chance to get some population too. I guess they added this to make people spend energy on collecting from homes more often instead of just ships, farms, and businesses.
Well, at the risk of asking too much, the guide would be even more awesome if it noted which houses drop items needed for collections (e.g., Skyscraper Condos and Glass Condos drop items for the Jet Setter Collection). But even if you don’t change a thing, your guide is great. Thanks again.
Not a bad idea ^^. Hmm. Gotta figure out how to squeeze them into that table haha
Added man!
. I’ll add sizes next!
my residences does not increase it’s population, what did I miss? my friend’s Baypoint Duplex shows under “collect in 4:00:00″ “population:310/470″ but mine has none.
I’m finding the same as Marc all my friends at a lower level has this, but me and my higher level friends has seen hide nor hair of this much needed addition.
I really wish it were easier to find a presentation like this -super helpful chart- that was regularly updated and included all the freebie houses that are available thru Rewardville or that show up as prizes in your inventory. # of population added and what’s required for completion would make a difference in my choices and when they are freebies (not available for general purchase) there’s no way to make an informed decision on chosing one over another.
